Description

The remains of a manor house, dating from the early 16th century, are located on Heyford Road in Somerton. This ruin is constructed of limestone rubble with ashlar dressings. It features a section of wall approximately 7 meters long, with quoins at each end. The wall contains a 4-centre-arched 2-light window that has remnants of Perpendicular tracery within a casement moulding, topped by a hood mould. The ends of the wall appear to be rebuilt, and there are signs of an additional window opening to the south. This structure is noted as part of the hall range of the manor house built by William Fermor and is scheduled as an Ancient Monument.
