Description

The railed tomb of the Austen family, dating from the mid-19th century, is located about 4 metres south-west of the Church of St Margaret. It features a cast iron enclosure with rails designed into open panels, each containing four quatrefoils with the letter A. Above and below these panels are ball and bar friezes, supported by iron-twist principals. The tomb includes a two-leaf gate on the east side. The chest tomb is set on a high pedestal and has a moulded base, fluted pilasters at the corners and centre of the long sides, a cornice, and a scrolled sarcophagus top slab.
