Description
Linden is a house built in the mid-19th century. It features a red brick ground floor and a first floor that is hung with fish-scale tiles, topped by a plain tiled roof. The building has an L-shaped plan and stands two storeys tall, with moulded bargeboarded gables and a central cluster of moulded stacks. Each floor has an arched wooden casement window, and there is an arched rib and stud door in the gable end facing the road. To the left side of the building, there are two casements on each floor. At the time of the survey, an extension was under construction at the rear. A similar estate cottage can be found nearby on Brick Kiln Lane, and both were likely built for the Smith-Marriot family of Rectory Park, with this house serving as the farmer's gate lodge.
