Description

The Church Barn, now a house, dates from around 1500, with later conversion in the late 20th century. It is timber framed and weather boarded, with a plain tiled roof and a sandstone base. The barn is two stories high, featuring four irregular wooden casements on each floor, and a full-height glazed entry bay in the centre, with a boarded door. There are outshots to the right and to the rear.

Originally, the barn comprised six bays. The southernmost bay was originally floored over to create a loft, partitioned off from the rest of the building and featuring mortices for a mullioned window. The roof is an unmoulded crownpost construction with irregular bracing. The walls are of large panel framing. The interior has been fitted out for domestic use. Historical sources describe the roof and timber framing, including irregular bracing, and note the original bay’s loft with window mortices.
