Description

Dix headstone, located approximately 7 metres south of the nave of the Old Church of St Peter, is a headstone dated 1783 in memory of Mary Dix. This upright sandstone slab stands about 1.75 metres high. The shaped head features carved scrolls surrounding an oval panel, which is adorned with a winged hourglass above a skull and fronds below. The inscription is in Roman serif upper and lower case lettering, including some italics, and it records the death of Mary Dix in 1783.
