Description
This is a headstone located approximately 15 metres northwest of the tower of the Church of St Mary in Hadlow. It is probably from the late 18th century and made of sandstone. The headstone is a tall upright slab, standing about 2 metres high, with a shaped head. It features a large oval plaque that is surrounded by a garland of nut-and-husk, which is tied at the top. In the top left corner, there is a carved crown and trumpet, while the top right corner displays a book and trumpet. At the bottom, there is a plaque adorned with ribbons. The inscription on the headstone has mostly worn off and is only legible in ideal lighting conditions. The grave itself is paved with two coffin-shaped stones.
