Description
The iron railings located to the north of the churchyard of the Church of St Mary were likely constructed around 1880. These cast iron railings run along the northern side of the churchyard and are set into sandstone coping stones. The railings feature common rails topped with plain spear heads and standards that have leafy fleur-de-lys finials.
The main gateway is situated at the west end, accessible from Church Street. It consists of stone gatepiers topped with pyramid caps and includes double gates. The gates are designed with common rails that have leafy fleur-de-lys finials, while the styles feature more elaborate versions. Each gate is supported by a curving brace. Above the gates is a simple overthrow with a lamp bracket that still holds its lantern.
In the center, directly opposite the north porch, there is a small gate that matches the style of the railings. At the east end, there is another double gateway similar to the one at the west, but this one is missing its lantern from the overthrow.
