Description

The Saxby headstone, located approximately 3 metres southeast of the chancel of the Church of St Mary, is a Grade II listed headstone dated 1789 in memory of Elizabeth Saxby. It is made of sandstone and stands upright at about 1 metre high. The head of the stone is shaped and features a low relief carving of a boy and girl reading books. The inscription is in Roman serif upper and lower case following Gothic lettering, recording the deaths of Elizabeth Saxby in 1789 and her husband John in 1790.
