Description

Pagehurst Cottages are a pair of cottages dating to 1846, although they incorporate some materials from the 16th century. The cottages are built of red brick with grey brick headers, and have a hipped slate roof with external brick chimneystacks at each end. A moulded wooden cornice runs along the top of the facade. The cottages are two storeys high with two windows and a central cemented blank section. The ground floor windows have casements, and are cambered at the top. A paired doorcase leads to plank doors, sheltered by a central cambered arch.

The interior features an open fireplace with a wooden bressumer and bracket, and a winder staircase. Reused timbers include a 16th-century spine beam with a 2 1/2 inch chamfer and run-out stops, alongside some plank doors. The cottages were derelict at the time of survey. They represent an intact example of mid-19th century cottages built to accommodate agricultural labourers and demonstrate group value as a notable example of their type.
