Description
The Red House is a Grade II* listed house located in Goddard's Green, dating from around 1600. This timber-framed building was refronted in the 18th century and is clad in fishscale tiles. It features a hipped tiled roof and stands two storeys high with five windows, which are 19th-century casements. The house has a hipped brick porch that includes an early 19th-century six-panelled door. There is an extension of one bay on the left-hand side.
Inside, the ground floor parlour boasts a fine roll-moulded ceiling from circa 1600 and a four-centred arched stone fireplace with a blank shield in the spandrels. The first-floor room above also has a four-centred arched stone fireplace, along with cross beams that feature lambs' tongue stops. The house retains several original late 16th-century plank doors, jowled posts, and an angled queen post roof with through purlins and an inserted ridgepiece. The original floorboards are still present.
