Description
This small stable block, dating from the early to mid 19th century, is located approximately 8 meters west of Firtree Cottage in Speldhurst, Langton Green. It is constructed from coursed blocks of sandstone and features a peg-tile roof.
The stable is oriented on a rough north-south axis and faces east towards Firtree Cottage. It is a single-storey building with a low profile. The central doorway is full height and contains a plain plank two-flap stable door with an overlight featuring glazing bars. There is one window on each side of the doorway, both topped with low stone segmental arches and projecting keystones. These windows contain 20th-century casements with glazing bars. To the left, the lower tack room is set back and has a front doorway and a window in the same style. The roof has a gable end that slopes down to a lower level over the tack room, and all gables are finished with stone coping.
Although the interior has not been inspected, this attractive small stable once served the nearby Langton House and is part of a notable group of varied listed buildings around The Green.
