SPELDHURST THE GREEN (west side), LANGTON GREEN Stable block approx 8m west of Firtree Cottage

GV II

Small stable block. Early/mid C19. Coursed blocks of sandstone; peg-tile roof.

Plan: Stable with tack room on a rough north south axis facing east towards Firtree Cottage. Single storey.

Exterior: Low building with full height central doorway containing plain plank 2-flap stable door and overlight with glazing bars. One window each side with low stone segmental arches over with projecting keystones. Both contain C20 casements with glazing bars. Lower tack room set back to left has a front doorway and window alongside in same style. Roof is gable-ended dropping to a lower level over the tackroom. All the gables have stone coping.

Interior: Not inspected.

This attractive small stable once served nearby Langton House (q.v.) and is one of a good group of varied listed buildings around The Green.
