Description
Penn Cottage is a small house, likely built in the mid-19th century, with some modern updates from the 20th century. The ground floor features Flemish bond red brick, which is patched with stretcher bond red brick at the south end. Above, the house is timber-framed and covered with peg tiles. It has a brick stack and chimney shaft topped with chimney pots, and the roof is also made of peg tiles.
The cottage has a two-room plan that faces west toward The Green. There are axial stacks between the rooms that serve back-to-back fireplaces. The entrance porch is located at the right (south) end, set back from the front, and it leads to a small parallel service block at the rear.
The exterior of the house has a regular two-window front with 20th-century casements that include glazing bars. The roof is gable-ended, and the doorway, which is recessed and located at the right end, contains a 20th-century panelled door. The roof rises to two storeys.
The interior was not available for inspection during the survey. Penn Cottage is part of a charming and diverse group of buildings along the east side of The Green.
