Description
Adam Cottage is a house likely dating from the early 19th century, with a 20th-century extension and modernization. It is constructed of dark ochre coloured Flemish bond brick, with red brick used around the window and door openings and a red brick band at first floor level. The brick stacks and chimneyshafts have chimneypots and the roof is slate-covered.
The house is built on a double-depth plan, facing west onto The Green. It features front and back rooms on either side of a central entrance hall and main staircase. Each end has a front and back end stack. A 20th-century garage on the right-hand end, with a studio room above, is set back slightly from the main front.
The main front of the house is symmetrical with a two-window facade, featuring 16-pane sashes under low segmental brick arches. The central doorway has a 20th-century part-glazed, two-panel door within a fluted timber doorcase, covered by a flat hood with moulded edges. The eaves are deep and the roof has a low pitch and is hipped at both ends.
The interior was not available for inspection at the time of survey.
Adam Cottage is part of an attractive and varied group of buildings fronting onto The Green.
