Description

Lampington Cottage is a small house, likely built in the early to mid-19th century, though it may have earlier origins. The property has undergone some modernizations in the late 19th and 20th centuries. The ground floor features Flemish bond brickwork with decorative burnt headers, while the central part of the main front is patched with stretcher bond red brick. Above, the timber-framing is hung with peg-tile, and the roof is also covered with peg-tile.

The house faces west and has a two-room plan, with each room having a projecting end stack. At the rear, there are service rooms under a parallel roof that extends slightly to the left (north), where the eaves are lowered over an entrance porch that is set back from the front. The brick patching in the middle of the main front may indicate where the original front doorway was located. Additional service blocks are positioned further back at right angles to the front block, one of which is located north of the main service block and has a gable-end facing The Green. This block includes a garage, and the first floor is connected to the main service range.

The house is two storeys high and features a regular two-window front with 20th-century casements that have glazing bars, along with similar windows throughout the rest of the house. The main roof is gable-ended, and the current front doorway, located at the left end, contains a 20th-century panelled door. Further back and to the left are 20th-century garage doors beneath a range of first-floor windows, which includes a canted bay at the angle between the garage and the main service range.

The interior was not available for inspection at the time of the survey. Lampington Cottage is part of an attractive and varied group of buildings along the east side of The Green.
