Description
The War Memorial, located on the south side of The Green in Langton Green, was built around 1919, with an additional plaque added in 1946. It is constructed from sandstone ashlar and features a tall Gothic-style cross dedicated to those who lost their lives in the First World War. The memorial has a tall, slightly tapering octagonal shaft topped with a cross that has a fleuree design. The shaft includes small gabled buttresses and is set in a chamfered socket stone on a tall pedestal with a moulded top. The corners of the pedestal are chamfered, and the wider chamfers at the top are adorned with shields carved with Sacred Emblems, tapering below through a stop to a narrower chamfer.
On the south side, a plaque honors the fallen from the First World War, while plaques on the other sides list their names. The pedestal stands on an octagonal four-step plinth, which is set on a paved base. A brass plaque on the top step commemorates the local dead of the Second World War.
