Description

Tubslake is a house dating back to the 16th century, situated on the west side of Hawkhurst Water Lane. Originally a hall house, it is timber-framed and clad in weatherboarding, with a plain tiled roof. The roof is half-hipped to the right with a slight gablet, and gabled to the left, featuring a projecting stack and a stack cluster towards the centre right. There are two metal casements on each floor, with a central gabled porch that is now fitted with a wooden casement. A single-storey range with an outshut is present to the left, containing a wooden casement, and a 20th-century extension is located to the right. The current entrance is at the rear, within a catslide outshut and a gabled rear wing. The interior retains a fully framed structure, showcasing quirk and tongue stop-chamfered beams, large sandstone and red brick fireplaces, and a substantial inglenook fireplace at the end of the right-hand stack.
