Description

These are two cottages, likely originally a hall house, dating from the early 16th century. The construction incorporates timber framing on a red brick plinth, with the upper parts weatherboarded. The roof is steeply pitched and tiled, with a hipped end and a gablet on the right-hand side. A brick stack is located towards the right of the ridge. The layout suggests a possible former hall-house plan. The cottages are two storeys high, with an irregular façade featuring a four-window arrangement on the first floor and a three-window arrangement on the ground floor. The windows are a mix of large, wooden-framed casements with two or three lights. There are boarded doors at each end; the right-hand door (No. 1) has a flat hood supported by brackets, while the left-hand door (No. 2) has a gabled open trellis work. A 19th-century weather porch is present. Inside, substantial timber framing is visible, including jowled posts.
