Description

Charity Farmhouse, now a house, dates to the 17th century. The building is timber-framed with a brick plinth. The walls are weatherboarded, with tile hanging above the ground floor in the north gable. It has plain tiled roofs, half-hipped to the right and with a very large gable to the left. A large central ridge stack is present. The farmhouse is arranged with a baffle entry plan, and has two storeys and attics. The front has two windows, with wood-framed casement windows. The central doorway has a panelled door and a flat hood. An early 20th-century two-storey single-bay extension sits to the right, and a square bay is also present on the right hand side. A catslide outshut extends from the rear. The building was originally constructed for the Denson-Wellar Charity, records of which are held in Maidstone Archives.
