Description
The Freight is a former cloth hall that has been converted into a house. It dates back to the 15th century, with alterations made in the 19th century and a restoration in the early 20th century. The building features a timber frame and is clad in red brick on the ground floor, while the first floor has tile hanging. It has a plain tiled roof with a large stack at the rear and an end projecting stack on the left side. There are two hipped dormers located in the center and right of the roof. The building is two storeys high and has an irregular arrangement of windows, with five on the first floor and four on the ground floor, featuring 20th-century wood-framed transom and mullion diamond lattice casements. A central hipped single-storey porch has a boarded door set in a Tudor arched surround, flanked by upright windows. At the rear, there are large two-storey wings. Inside, there is substantial evidence of the timber frame structure.
