Description

The Church of St Peter is a brick structure built in 1830 by Decimus Burton for John Deacon, who was extending Mabledon Park. Originally designed to seat 500 people, it features yellow brick and sandstone. In 1883, Ewan Christian extended the church, adding an unusual west front with a tower and spire, flanked by two-storey projections that include porches and staircases. The chancel has clerestory windows and buttresses, with geometrical tracery added to Burton's wide lancets during this extension. The church has a five-bay nave and two pairs of quatrefoil windows on each side of the chancel clerestorey, as well as a west gallery.
