Description
The Memorial Hall, formerly known as the Old Village Hall, is a former village hall now used as offices. It was built in 1908 as a monument to the 1st Earl of Cranbrook and is designed in the Queen Anne style. The building features a pebbledashed exterior with brick dressings and a tiled roof, which is topped with two brick chimneystacks. It has a T-shaped layout and is a single storey high, with elaborate curved gables at each end that include oval windows and pilasters. There are two 4-light mullioned windows on the facade. The central projecting brick porch has a curved gable adorned with a metal weather vane, an elaborate coat of arms, and a plaque above the doorcase, which has an eared architrave and oval side windows. The plaque reads, "To the Glory of God and in loving memory of Gathorne 1st Earl of Cranbrook. This hall is erected by relatives, friends and fellow parishioners A.D. 1908." It also includes the Latin inscription "SI MONUMENTUM REQUIRIS CIRCUMSPICE."
