Description
The wagon barn, located about 10 metres north of Furnace Farmhouse, dates from around 1700 and was restored in the late 20th century. It is timber framed and weather boarded, topped with a plain tiled roof. The barn has two storeys, with the ground floor completely open. An external wooden stair on the east side leads to the upper floor, which features a half-hipped roof. The upper floor has a boarded door and wooden casements. Inside, the upper floor is aisled and consists of three bays supported by gunstock jowled posts that hold up a clasped purlin roof. This building is rare and unusually constructed, although it has been moved and reconstructed from its original site in the farmyard.
