Description
This barn, dated 1760, is located about 20 yards north-west of Upper House Farmhouse and is adjacent to a granary. It features a timber-framed structure with corrugated iron cladding on a tall brick base, some brick walling, and a plain tiled roof. The barn consists of three framed bays that are aligned roughly east to west. The central wagon bay has opposed cart entries and double doors on the south side. There are ventilation slits in the west end wall and diaper ventilation patterns at the east end of the base. The framing includes long rectangular panels extending from the sill to the wall-plate, along with long straight lower corner braces. The roof is supported by a collar and tie-beam truss with two long struts to the collar and raking struts across the lower corners at the east end. There are also two intermediate trusses with only raking struts and two tiers of trenched purlins. The date "1760" is inscribed above the south doorway.
