Description

Manor Cottage with the Pharmacy is a house pair and shop, dating from the 17th century or earlier. The building is timber-framed with a red brick ground floor and tile hanging, topped with a plain tiled roof. Manor Cottage itself is two storeys high with a garret and basement, exhibiting a slight jetty to the first floor and a half-hipped roof. It features two three-light wooden casement windows on each floor, and a half-glazed door positioned centrally to the left. A basement opening is located to the right. A projecting red brick wall, buttressed and approximately 15 yards long, extends from the left side, varying in height from 6 to 4 feet.

The Pharmacy occupies the left return and rear wing. Due to the sloping ground, this section rises to three storeys, incorporating the garret of Manor Cottage. It has a projecting half-hipped roof to the right and a hipped roof to the left, with a central stack. The Pharmacy’s upper levels have a single wooden casement in the garret, two casements on the second floor, and three on the first floor; those on the left-hand side of the Pharmacy have leaded lights. A projecting late 19th-century shop window-bay features a half-glazed door and fascia board. A half-glazed door, and a former multi-panel shop window turned around the corner, are situated to the right.
