Description

Styles Yard Cottage and Oasthouse is a cottage and oasthouse that dates back to the 16th century or earlier, with extensions and alterations made in the early 19th century. The building features a timber frame with large panels and an arched and tension-braced frame, which is exposed in some areas. The structure has plaster infill and has been extended with weatherboarding and a red brick kiln. The roofs are made of corrugated iron and plain tiles.

The cottage consists of four framed bays and likely originated as a hall house. It stands two storeys tall on a plinth, with a hipped roof and a gablet on the left side, along with a stack also on the left. On the first floor, there are two wooden casements, with the right one having five lights, and on the ground floor, there are three wooden casements and a boarded door to the left.

Attached to the right is a weather-boarded stowage, which is also two storeys high and sits on a stone plinth. This stowage features a small light and a loft door to the right on the first floor, as well as a boarded door to the right on the ground floor. At the far right end, there is a square kiln, also on a stone base, which is buttressed and has a pyramidal roof topped with a wooden cowl and a winding vane.
