Description
Swigs Hole Farmhouse is a house that dates back to the 16th century or earlier, which has been extended and altered over time. The building features a timber frame that is partially exposed on the left side, with red brick infill, and plaster infill on the right return. The exterior is clad with red brick on the ground floor and has fish-scale tile hanging on the first floor, topped with a plain tiled roof. The layout follows a lobby entry plan with two parallel ranges and a cross wing. The house has two storeys and an attic, set on a plinth beneath a gabled roof that steps down to the left. A large central stack features a double arched panel, and there are two hipped dormers.
On each floor, there are three 3-light leaded mullioned and transomed windows, with a 2-light window located to the centre right on the first floor. The ground floor includes a rib and stud door with a flat hood supported by brackets. The right return has leaded mullioned windows, later wooden casements, and a rib and stud door in a raking outshot with a stack. Inside, the farmhouse has a clasped purlin roof and an inglenook fireplace that is set off the centre line, possibly indicating a smoke bay, with some soot blackening present.
