Description

Rams Hill is a house dating from the 17th century or earlier, which has been altered and extended throughout the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries. The house combines timber frame construction with brick cladding on the ground floor – in part English bond – and sandstone, with a tile-hung first floor. The roofs are covered in plain tiles. The house has an irregular plan; the front range is two storeys and has a garret. It sits on a stone plinth, with a roof that is half-hipped to the right and gabled to the left, featuring a stack. The front has two metal casement windows and one wooden casement on the first floor, and a casement and French doors on the ground floor. A right return presents a gable end of the front elevation, along with a two-storey hipped rear wing on a stone plinth. This wing has a stepped stack cluster, and a hipped cross wing extends to the rear, with a stone base. It features irregular wooden casements and a half-glazed door to the right. Single-storey brick extensions are located to the rear. The current main entrance is through a 20th-century stone and tile-hung porch with a flat roof, accessed via a rib and stud door on the left return.
