Description

TQ 54 SW SPELDHURST POUNDSBRIDGE LANE

3/541 Barn approx 2m north of Nos 1, 2 and 3 Silcocks Cottages

GV II

Barn. Probably C17, reroofed in C19. Weatherboarded timber frame on brick footings. Slate roof.

Plan: Threshing barn on a rough north south axis with opposing central double doorways onto the threshing floor.

Exterior: Large doorways are nearly full height and now missing their doors on both sides. A window to right of the doorway on the west side has timber mullions. Roof is gable-ended.

Interior: 5 bays. The northern end bay is probably a C19 extension. Its timbers are of lesser scantling. The original 4 bays of large scantling timbers with large curving tension braces in the wall frames above middle rail level. Replacement C19 roof.
