Description

Hancock's Farmhouse is a farmhouse that has been converted into a house. It dates back to the early 16th century, with a mid-16th century block added to the left. The structure is timber-framed, sitting on a red brick plinth and is plastered, featuring plain tiled roofs that are half-hipped on the right arch return cross wing. There are end brick stacks and a large stack in the center at the rear. A continuous jetty extends over the ground floor, with a slight step up to the right at the junction between the left-hand block and the wing, all supported by curved brackets. The building has two storeys and garrets, with a window in the garret of the cross wing. The front is slightly irregular with four windows, featuring large 19th-century wood-framed lattice casements. To the right of center, there is a boarded and ribbed door with a transom light above, set in a moulded architrave surround. At the rear, there is a deep catslide extension.

Inside, there is a substantial timber frame and a large fireplace with a deep wooden bressummer. The northeast block has a side-purlin roof with collars and diminishing principals, along with some curved braces. The wing has a heavier scantling roof with collars and very small spaces between the rafters. An early 18th-century staircase was brought in around 1978.
