Description
Donkey Wheel House, located 70 yards to the south of Court Lodge, is a mid-19th century building that serves as a donkey-wheel house and water tower, also referred to as the 'Round House'. The structure is octagonal in shape, built from red brick, and features a pitched slate roof. It stands 2½ storeys tall and has round windows on the north-east, north-west, south-east, and south-west sides, with sash windows on the other four sides. All sides have shallow louvres beneath the eaves. The entrance door, located on the south side, has a gauged arched head. On the north side, there is an open tank with a brick abutment wall and a pipe leading to a tank located under the roof of the building. Inside, the building retains a cogged horizontal wheel with an attached harness, as well as the complete pumping machinery connected to a well below. There is also a water tank situated in the roof.
