Description

House, built between 1801 and 1802 by Samuel Wyatt. The north front is rendered with a plinth and band, and has a slate hipped roof with two ridge stacks. It has two storeys and five windows, with a tall, single-storey Greek Doric portico of columns and a pediment at the entrance. The portico’s outer columns are fluted. The entrance features tall, glazed double doors with matching glazed panels either side. A seven-bay, two-storey extension adjoins the north front, with a further extension beyond it. A single-storey, blind extension is on the right, and features pilasters and a cornice. The west front has four bays, with glazing bar sashes on the first floor. A ground-floor extension extends to the left. A large, central window is flanked by paired pilasters with narrow lights between. The south front has two storeys and five bays. A three-bay, two-storey semi-circular bow with a leaded dome dominates the centre. The windows are closer together in the central section. A tripartite sash window is on the ground floor to the right, and French casements to the left. A full-length ground-floor verandah is supported by wooden posts and has a slate roof. A six-bay extension adjoins the south front, with a taller, six-bay extension beyond. A panelled door, with the two top panels glazed, is at the extreme left end of the extension. Inside, a two-flight return staircase has a cast-iron balustrade and a wooden handrail. The morning room has a cornice decorated with acanthus leaves. The dining room features a recess at the north end, separated from the main space by a pair of reeded antae. It has a moulded, early 19th-century Greek Revival fireplace and a panelled ceiling decorated with Athenian motifs and rosettes. All doorcases have carved rosettes, and those in the dining room have panelled overdoors.
