Description
The donkey wheel, located about 15 metres north of Ratling Court, is a 18th-century structure made of timber and topped with a thatched roof. It features a wheel with a vertical shaft and drum, where the upper and lower harness beams are staggered and connected by a timber harness. The central truss of the machinery supports the circular thatched housing, which likely originally had weather boarded sides. Attached to the wheel house is a timber framed and thatched open-sided pentice that extends to the north wing of Ratling Court. This pentice consists of three bays with a brick and cobbled floor, a clasped purlin roof, and various hooks and wooden wall frames intended for agricultural practices.
