Description

Uffington Court is a house dating from the 16th century and mid-17th century, with extensions and alterations made around 1838. It is constructed of red brick in irregular and English bonds, topped with a plain tiled roof. The building has two storeys and a basement set on a plinth, featuring a plat band and a brick eaves cornice with pilaster strip quoins. The hipped roof includes gablets and a central stack.

On the first floor, there are two three-light and one two-light wooden casements, while the ground floor has two three-light wooden casements and a basement opening to the right. The central entrance features a half-glazed door with a flight of three steps. There is a blocked three-light brick mullioned window on the left side and four-light wooden ovolo moulded mullioned and transomed windows on the right side. The rear wing is made of earlier brickwork and includes inserted Dering windows, one of which is dated 1838, with three windows on each floor and an end bay from that date. The rear wall is made of flint.

At the back, there is a small outshot from the 17th century, which has remnants of an earth or water closet, including an exterior opening for removing pans and remains of a later gulley for direct flushing, indicating an older sanitation system.

Inside, there is evidence suggesting a possible framed origin, with cellars partially lined with flint and rubble, mostly brick. The inglenook fireplace is located behind the main entrance, with a barrel vaulted passage aligned with the entrance. The original open well staircase from the 18th century lacks balusters but features a ramped rail on turned newels and a Gothick traceried stair light, although the center of the well is now boarded. Uffington Court was purchased by William Boys of Bonnington to serve as his residence before 1629.
