Description
Old Court Farmhouse is a house dating from the 17th century, with alterations from the 18th and early 19th centuries. It features a combination of red and blue brick and has a plain tiled roof. The building is two storeys high with a basement, showcasing a plinth and boxed eaves. There are stacks on the right and a projecting stack at the left end, all constructed in English bond and dating back to at least the 17th century. The facade includes two wooden casements on each floor and a central 20th-century panelled door. There are two basement openings on the right and one on the left, along with a single-storey extension to the right.
At the rear, there is a courtyard with an early 18th-century half-hipped single-storey range that contains a bread oven, complete with a lath and plaster firehood and an external door leading to a labourers' loft above. The front yard is enclosed by a red brick wall built on a flint base, dating from the 17th century. This wall is about 5 feet high and extends approximately 20 yards by 20 yards, featuring buttresses and ramping up to join the house. The farmhouse was the residence of the Marsh family of Acrise from around 1605 to 1665.
