Description
The Tanyard is a farmhouse that has been converted into a house. It dates from the early 16th century on the right side and was altered around 1840 on the left side. The left side features red brick, which is painted on the first floor, while the right side has red brick on the ground floor and exposed timber-framing with plaster infilling and some curved braces on the first floor. The roof is plain tiled, hipped at both ends, and has two pitches, with the left side being higher. There is a central stack and a stack on the left slope, along with a catslide extension at the right-hand end. The building has two storeys and four windows that are extremely irregular, including a mix of glazing bar sashes on the left and side-hung and sliding casements on the right, with some surviving interior sliding shutters. There is a boarded door located in the second bay from the left. Inside, there are remains of the storeyed end of a hall-house, which may have been the service end. A curious lean-to roof was added in the 16th century to this end, which is visible inside the drawing-room.
