Description
The Bear Hotel is an 18th century coaching inn, established in 1742, located on High Street in West Malling. The building features painted brick on the ground floor set on a deep painted plinth, while the first floor is roughcast. The roof is old and tiled, hipped to the right-hand side. The structure is two storeys high with five windows. The second floor includes four gabled dormers with casements. On the first floor, there are three 12-pane sash windows framed by moulded architraves, and the end windows are two-storey splayed bays. The ground floor has an additional off-centre 12-pane sash window and a wide doorcase with a cornice, alongside the end splayed bay. Inside, the hotel features ceiling beams with linear chamfers and lamb's tongue stops.
