Description
This building consists of three shops with living accommodation, dating from around 1870 and designed in a Gothic style. It is constructed from random ragstone rubble and features a tiled roof along with two elaborate stock brick chimneystacks. The structure is two storeys high with attics and has a total of eight windows.
Number 87 is notable for its two projecting gables that include kneelers and a central gargoyle. The attic features lancet windows, while the first floor has a central casement with mullions and transoms, adorned with 'chinoiserie' glazing, flanked by lancets with a similar design. The ground floor showcases a fine 19th-century shopfront with four arches and trefoil spandrels, a rusticated arch on the right side, and a splayed corner on the left. The left side elevation has a ground floor made of stone rubble and an overhanging first floor with applied eclectic timber-framing, along with a six-panelled door.
The rear elevation includes sash windows with stock brick dressings. Numbers 89 and 91 feature a large central gable topped with a finial. The second floor has paired lancets with 'chinoiserie' glazing, although this is only preserved on the right side. The first floor has two sash windows without glazing bars and end lancets that no longer have 'chinoiserie' glazing. The ground floor has a 19th-century shopfront with panelled risers for No 89 and a later splayed shopfront for No 91, along with a cambered pedestrian entrance to the right. Number 89 also displays an elaborate 19th-century iron clock mounted on brackets and a central iron lamp bracket.
