Description
75 and 77 High Street is a shop with living accommodation above, originally a medieval hall-house that predates 1550. The building once overhung the street but was refronted in the 18th century and refenestrated in the mid-19th century. It is timber-framed and clad in stucco, featuring a steeply pitched old tiled roof. The structure has two storeys and three windows, with a modillion eaves cornice. There are three sash windows with verticals only and horns. The 19th-century shopfront includes a deep fascia, a central doorcase with pilasters, and a right-side doorcase also with pilasters. The rear elevation is made of red brick with some grey headers and contains a 12-pane sash window. The roof is very steeply pitched with a gablet. Inside, the first floor has an 18th-century eight-panelled door and an early 19th-century fireplace, with one curved brace visible. A crown post has been reported but not seen.
