Description

The Joiners Arms Public House is a public house located on High Street in West Malling. It was built in the early 18th century, with bar fronts added in the early to mid-19th century. The building is constructed of plum-coloured brick and features a plain-tiled roof. There are two storeys and five windows, with a deep modillion eaves cornice. The façade includes five very narrow 12-pane sash windows set in moulded architraves; the central and end windows have ogee-moulded brickwork, while the two extreme left windows are set at an angle. The other three windows have brick aprons below them.

On the left side, there is an early 19th-century bowed front with pilasters, a half-glazed door, and a decorative fanlight. The right side features a shopfront with two half-glazed doors, one adorned with reeded pilasters and a cornice. The left side elevation has a projecting brick chimneystack and is tile hung on the first floor, with a double sash window on the ground floor that is stuccoed behind. The rear elevation has an M-shaped roof, with double gables that are tile hung and weatherboarded below. The second floor has casement windows, while the lower floors feature 3:1 sash windows. Inside, the rear room has a moulded cornice and 17th-century plank and mortice panelling, and the first floor retains original doors and a chimneypiece.
