Description
46 King Street is a shop that was originally an open hall-house and later used as oasthouses. It dates from the late 15th century but was refronted in the 19th century, with a 20th-century flat-roofed extension that is not of special interest. The ground floor front features 19th-century brickwork, while the first floor projects with a jetty and is pargetted. The building has a very steeply pitched 20th-century tiled roof with one truncated oast at the rear. The side elevation includes one small window, and the front elevation has two 19th-century casement windows. Inside, there is close-studding and a cut-off late 15th-century or early 16th-century octagonal crownpost with a lamb's tongue stop and four head braces to the collar. The first floor of the building is a flying freehold and is accessed through No 2 West Street.
