Description

The Lion and Swan Inn is a picturesque 17th-century inn and former coaching stop. The core of the building may be even earlier. It has undergone extensive restoration and later alterations. The front of the inn is timber-framed and plastered, while the rest of the structure is brick, primarily from the 19th century.

The inn is two storeys high with gabled dormers. The ground floor front is of a later date than the upper parts. A first-floor arcade is situated over a central open porch, supported by two stone Roman Doric columns. This porch is raised well above street level and is accessed by stone steps. The doorway features a moulded wooden doorcase with an 18th-19th century glazed door. Most windows are 18th-century sash windows with glazing bars. The roof is a mix of old stone slates, slates, and tiles, with a tiled section at the rear.

The interior has been significantly altered, but some exposed ceiling beams remain.
