Description
2 and 4 Mill Street is a late 18th-century building that was originally one house. Number 2 features red brick construction with three storeys, two sash windows without glazing bars, and flat brick arches. There is a semi-circular headed doorway to the right and a tall, narrow staircase window on the returned side to the left. A modern shop front has been added. The hotel portion on the right appears to have been remodeled around 1850 and is made of painted brick and stucco. It has plain stuccoed pilasters and a frieze, with a configuration of two plus one plus two sash windows, also without glazing bars. The doorcase is stuccoed with a cornice on consoles, a rectangular fanlight, and a ten-panelled divided door. The entire structure features continuous moulded stone eaves and a blocking course. Number 2 and the Bull's Head Hotel are part of a group that includes Nos 12 and 14 and the National Westminster Bank on Swan Bank.
