Description
Numbers 313-315 on Shipbourne Road are a pair of cottages built in the early to mid 19th century, designed in a picturesque style. They are constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, featuring grey headers that create a diaper pattern, and have rubbed yellow brick voussoirs. The cottages have a tiled roof with a central chimney that has three plain diagonally set stacks. They are two storeys high and have a total of four windows. The front and side elevations are gabled and adorned with ornate fretted wooden bargeboards and blank arched niches. The arched windows are fitted with 12-pane sashes. Each cottage has a central open projecting porch with a tiled roof, fretted bargeboards, rustic pole supports, and panelled doors. At the rear, there is an outshot with casement windows and plain doors. Inside, there is an original staircase featuring stick bannisters and partition walls made of thin scantling.
