Description

A row of cottages dating from the mid to late 18th century, with extensions and alterations made in the early 19th century. The cottages are built of red brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with a hipped tiled roof and brick chimneystacks. There are five windows per cottage, arranged over two storeys and with attics. A brick modillion eaves cornice runs along the top. The cottages have a plinth, and five hipped dormers with modern casement windows. Numbers 1 and 5 have early 19th-century cambered heads; number 1 has a sash window with 16 panes, and number 5 a casement window. Numbers 2, 3 and 4 have 16-pane sash windows with cemented voussoirs and S-shaped iron ties. Number 5 has a doorcase with a cornice and console brackets, leading to a six-panelled door. Number 4 has a four-panelled door, number 3 has a six-panelled door, number 2 a modern four-panelled door, and number 1 a four-panelled door with a small rectangular fanlight. There are three brick chimneystacks on the ridge, and number 5 has two external brick chimneystacks. The side elevation is rendered. The rear elevation features a roof with four half-hips.
