Description
No. 2 St Mary's Lane is a cottage pair dating from the 17th century, with an 18th-century addition to the north-west, forming an L-shape. The building features a coursed rubble stone plinth with a red and blue brick chequer pattern above. It has a plain tiled half-hipped roof, which includes two hipped dormers on the south side and a central ridge stack. The structure is two storeys high with an attic, featuring two windows on the first floor and three windows on the ground floor, all of which are casements set under segmental heads. There is a half-glazed door at the extreme left in the angle of the block, sheltered by an angled weather porch. At the rear, a gable of a vestigial block is visible in the angle of the building.
The south wing has a red brick ground floor and a rendered first floor, with some visible timber framing. It has a plain tiled gambrel roof, which is half-hipped to the left. This section is one storey high with attics, featuring two casement windows. There are two doorways: one with a boarded door under an angled weather porch at the extreme right, and the other with a half-glazed door under a flat hood supported by brackets at the extreme left.
