Description
The gate piers, gate, and flanking walls at the entrance to the drive to Nizels House were built in the early 20th century. They consist of brick walls, brick and stone piers, and a timber gate. These features are likely contemporary with the remodeling of Nizels House and the layout of the Edwardian garden.
The gate piers are square in shape, with plinths and moulded stone cornices, topped with ball finials. The sturdy timber gate has diagonal cross-bracing and is hung from a chamfered timber post that features a ramshorn moulding below the finial. Short sections of curved brick wall extend from the gate piers to shorter piers at either end.
While the design is fairly plain, the gateway is likely part of the Edwardian improvements made at Nizels House. It holds group value with the Lodge at Nizels.
