Description

Nizels Hoath is probably a house dating from the late medieval period, with alterations made in the 17th century. The building is of framed construction, with a brick underbuild, and has a peg-tile roof. It features a prominent stack with three shafts and a corbelled cornice. A 1957 photograph in the National Monument Record indicates a lobby entrance plan, with a gabled projection to the left of the front door. The stack may have been inserted into the cross passage of what was originally a medieval open hall house. The front has a four-window facade with modern casement windows and a flat-roofed hood over the front door. The interior is likely to be of interest, particularly the roof construction. An internal inspection is recommended prior to any planning decisions to ensure that any interesting internal features, including a potentially medieval roof, are not disturbed, and that the building’s group value is properly assessed.
