Description
The Lodge at Nizels, built around the 1840s and possibly enlarged in the late 19th or early 20th century, serves as the lodge for Nizels House. The building features two blocks arranged in a T shape, with the north block constructed of English bond brick and the south block of Flemish bond. It has a peg-tile roof adorned with ornamental diamond patterns and two brick stacks. Designed in the Tudor style, the Lodge faces south, overlooking the drive to Nizels House, and includes a canted bay observation window. The entrance is located on the east side.
The exterior remains largely unspoiled, showcasing curly pierced bargeboards with pendants and finials on all gables, along with a complete set of 19th-century two-light iron casements featuring hexagonal panes. The building is two storeys high, with an asymmetrical arrangement of windows on the south elevation. The left side has a slightly projecting gabled front, while the right side features a canted bay on the ground floor topped with a pyramidal roof covered in fish-scale tiles and a gabled dormer above. The east elevation has a projecting gabled end on the south block, which includes a 20th-century door beneath a rubbed brick flat arch, with a window to the right. The north block's east front has two ground floor casements and a gabled dormer. The rear elevation of the north block retains a gabled dormer with curly bargeboards and an original window.
The Lodge has group value with the gate piers and gate at the entrance to the drive leading to Nizels House.
