Description
The drive gate, front railings, and boundary wall to The Pines date from the 18th century. They are constructed from Doulting and Cary stone, with some brickwork. The gateway is located at the north-east corner of the house and features tall boarded gates with sweeps at the corners, set between ashlar piers that are about 4 meters high. These piers have square moulded plinths, rusticated shafts, cornice moulding caps, steps, and urn finials topped with pineapples. The gateway is connected to The Pines by a tall rubble wall with plain coping, which includes a plain boarded door in a plain opening.
In front of the house, approximately 2 meters away, there is a red brick wall in Flemish bond with sweep-stepped stone coping and curved returns at the corners of the house, ending with 19th-century cast iron gates. To the right of the house, there is a brick wall set over a stone wall, featuring a serpentine link to another ashlar pier that matches the gate piers but has a fluted frieze under the cap. This structure enhances not only the setting of The Pines but also contributes positively to the overall streetscape.
