Description
The mill building at Ansford Factory is an original structure dating from 1851, built for John Boyd, a horsehair weaver. It is constructed from cut and squared Hadspen stone and features a Welsh slate roof with coped gables. The south gable includes a bell turret, although the bell has been removed. The building stands three storeys high and consists of 13 bays. It has casement windows with 16 panes set in plain openings, showcasing proud-set voussoirs and keystones above flat arches. The lower bay 1 and the second floor above it have pairs of plain boarded doors, with matching doors in lower bay 13. There is also a second-floor door and a steel fire escape on the north gable. The interior of the building has not been greatly modified. This was the first building on the site of John Boyd's horsehair and general weaving establishment, which was relocated from South Cary to the grounds of Ochiltree House in 1851.
